April 3, at the Final Four Feast (at Tommy Joe’s in Bethesda) is where I first heard Phil Ade. At first I thought he was terrible, my boys told me to give him a real listen and after a few tracks, I was sold. Now, I am actually a huge fan. After the release of his critically acclaimed mixtape “Starting on JV” Philade has been making big moves. His break through hit “Hollywood” jump started him into the music industry, and is now on radio rotation. He did a promo through Facebook where he would personally deliver a signed copy of his mixtape to his fans, and I got my copy that way. Not many MC’s will personally show love to their fans, and that’s why we at No-Hypebeast will always show love to the whole 368 Team, and will support him in anything he does. The DMV and fans all over have been anticipating the release of his album “The Letterman” which if completely FREE to download. This album is definitely worth a listen. We see nothing but good things coming Phil’s way, and have to admit that he will be the next big thing to come out of the DMV music scene.

If you attended you already know this joint was poppin, if you didn’t then I’m sorry but you loafed. But don’t be mad homies and homegirls needless to say, this is only the first of many. The No-Hypebeast team, along with JC Dot, 1st Impressions Studio, Black Collection, and Team Pootie definitely gave you a memorable night, that you won’t soon forget. We got many sick pictures of all the madness that went down that night, but unfortunately can only put so many up. If you attended and don’t see your pic, just let us know and we can send it to you. Artist Spotlight: Stef

Today I met up with local artist Stef and got to know a little more about him and his music. At first, I was like man this guy is going to think I am a joke, but he turned out to be a cool, laid back guy and his personality definitely shows in his music.

Stef is not a DC native, he was born in Jamaica, moved to Miami, then LA and now lives here in the DMV with family. Living in all of those different areas has definitely inffluence his music, giving it a unique sound. He takes what he has learned from each hip hop scene and molds it together creating- Menace to Sobriety. Do not let the title confuse you, it is not about getting drunk or partying all the time, instead about life as he knows it. “My music is made to make you feel good and think, without being preachy.”

This is the video teaser, directed by Dante Marshall, for Big Sean’s upcoming single from his mixtape Finally Famous Vol 3. This track goes IN harder than a lot of new shit I’ve been hearing lately. The instrumental itself is ridiculous, produced by the Olympicks, hailing all the way from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I have to admit as far as this whole swagger rap that is currently regarded as”thee hott shit,” Big Sean is one of the top contenders in my book. He’s got lines for days, and has you sometimes rewinding just to catch what he said. Just in case you don’t already have the track, click HERE to download. This is the video for the track “High Rise,” which also goes in. The video is pretty dope, but I think the boys over at 1st Impressions Studio could have done a better job with it… I’m just saying.

Nike’s “Write the Future” campaign is one their best of all time. This World Cup inspired campaign now collaborating with the RED foundation joined forces to fight against HIV/AIDS. Next time you go out to pick up some kicks, make sure to pick up the (Nike)red laces. The proceeds from all laces sold go to the RED foundation, which in turn go towards preventative medicine much needed in Africa. So next time you’re out buying some kicks, make sure to cop these laces as well. Something as simple as spending a few extra bucks, will go a long way to better the lives of many. The only way to make the world a better place is if we as society do something about it, and this way really isn’t too hard. The video features the Chelsea and Ivory Coast striker, Didier Drogba. BB Gun is well known for their high quality of work, and this video is epic. This video is for J. Cole’s single titled “Who Dat.” Although the official debut album has yet to be announced, his recent appearance on 106th & Park and the promotional plug for this video leaves fans with much to speculate about. The whole video is one continuos take, and I have to admit it works really well. This video must have been a challenge to shoot (to say the least) but everything from the concept, the angles, the coloring, and even the explosions are on point. Absolut x Spike Lee

Absolut Vodka teamed up with Spike Lee for the fourth release from it’s “City Line” of flavored vodkas, Absolut Brooklyn. It has red apple and ginger flavored alcohol and is said to “evoke the spice and vibrancy Brooklyn brings to the Big Apple.” The bottle itself is a tribute to Brooklyn, as it depicts a classic and timeless Brooklyn stoop. Also on the bottle is a line from Lemon Andersen’s poem, “Somewhere in the world Brooklyn in the house and you know we won’t stop spreading love cause that’s our way.” This is a must have for any vodka enthusiasts, Spike Lee fans (21+ yrs of age), or Brooklyn natives. The concept and presentation is on point, Absolut’s “City Line” flavor vodkas campaign is definitely something to be on the lookout for. Coming to a city near you, and remember drink responsibly. Below is the ad they dropped last week. Its pretty dope, and you can tell by the angles used and the all around style that it’s a Spike Lee Joint. Also Mr. Andersen did his thing on this, so mad props to him. I don’t know too many people that are into poetry like that, but if you are remotely interested than you’ve heard the name before.
